Annette Brown Roby

Our Forever Matriarch of the Brown Family
Born Annette Brown in Chicago, Illinois on June 30, 1949, to parents Vernel Brown Sr. and Annie Sheppard Brown. She attended grade school at Beveridge Elementary School in Gary, Indiana until the age of 8 years old. Her parents relocated to Chicago and Annette started attending John Marshall Elementary and High school in 1960. In 1965, her first son Joseph was born.
She started working at Angie's Lounge Stouffers Restaurant and B&K Restaurant to pay the bills, Her parents move back to Gary, Indiana and her second son James was born in 1967. She worked odd jobs and gave birth to her third child Joereanie in 1968. In 1971, her fourth child was born Joeslanie. She volunteered at the Medothist Baptist Church food share program until she was hired by the United States Steel Corporation. Gary Works in 1977 and joined United Steel Workers (USW) Union 1066. She worked as a turnaround operator and a semi-truck driver. She retired in 2000 and moved to California. Annette passed at home October 4, 2019
Annette worked and retired as a crane operator for 30 years on U.S.Steel Gary Works' 84 Hot Strip. in 2000+ degrees heat ....Whew! Hot!! Take a quick peak at the video to see where she worked and the type job that she did. Prepare to be surprsied!
She worked 16 hours a day to support and provide for us. Her Uncle William Sheppard Jr worked at U.S.Steel as a Chemical Engineer and helped to create the formulas for stainless and alloyed steel. In addition, to creating the formulas he also designed the plant that produces the steel.. Wow! Forever Grateful.
